New Year, New Smile
January 2016
New Year's resolutions : We make them every year, and every year we do our best to stick with them.
Many people choose to commit to a healthier lifestyle. Why can't that include your smile? After all, a healthy mouth means a healthy body.
These small resolutions can transform your smile in 2016:
- Brush and floss every day – We recommend twice per day, and so do most dentists. This is essential to preventing cavities and tooth decay and is easy to add to your nightly routine!
- Add fruits and veggies to your diet – This is also good if you're trying to slim down for the New Year. Foods like fruits and vegetables help scrub away plaque and promote a healthy enamel.
- Quit smoking – Tobacco is terrible for your teeth and gums. Try to quit, or at least limit your tobacco use. Smoking can cause yellow teeth, bad breath, gum disease and even tooth loss. If you would like help quitting, ERS offers State of Texas employees and retirees tobacco cessation programs. To learn more, click here.
- Schedule regular dental check-ups – Regular check-ups are important for catching early signs of cavities and gum disease. Some symptoms of your mouth can also alert you to other health concerns! We recommend you see your dentist twice a year.
